The area has so much to
offer in outdoor activities that we’re sure you’ll run out of time before
you run out of ideas. To help you along here are a few suggestions.
 |
Watersports:
Travel only a couple of miles and you are on the shores of Derwentwater
Lake. Here you can take a boat trip round the lake and visit
Keswick on the way or call into one of the marinas to try your
hand at sailing, canoeing or windsurfing.
|
 |
Walking:
Borrowdale is a haven for walkers. Whatever
your level of ability the area has walks to match your
needs, from the challenges of climbing England’s highest mountains
to leisurely rambles along winding rivers through ancient
wooded valleys
|
 |
Photography: Throughout the year the variety of locations and challenges of
the changing seasons and moods are guaranteed to keep your
shutter busy - landscape photography at its most rewarding.
|
 |
Fishing: With so many waters in the area the fishing opportunities are
endless. Locally you can combine a walk up to Watendlath tarn
with a day's bank or boat fishing and hopefully catch one of
the large rainbow or brown trout. Memories are made of this.

Rock
Climbing: For
the more adventurous Borrowdale holds special connections
for rock climbers with routes to suit all abilities. Instruction
is available from Keswick.

GETTING AROUND
A regular bus service (every ½ hour in summer) operates to Keswick
6 miles away, stopping opposite Rose Cottage. The bus is ‘open topped’
during the summer months, a great way to see the valley.
FURTHER AFIELD
Rosthwaite is situated
at the Northern part of the Lake District giving easy access to the
Historic town of Carlisle, Hadrian's Wall, the Scottish Borders, the
Solway coast, the Eden valley and the Northern Pennines. |
